Daniel Hildreth has revealed how he told his weary Worthing Thunder side not to make excuses for themselves.

Thunder halted their slide in NBL division one with a buzzer-beating 84-82 win at Tees Valley Mohawks at the end of a tiring weekend in the North East.

Milton Chavis tipped in to secure the victory.

Coach Hildreth said: "It was another come-from-behind win and a huge test of character.

"Understandably we were a little sluggish after all the travelling and Saturday night's game.

"I said to the guys at half-time 'let's not make that an excuse'.

"Our defence was key down the stretch and we came up with a chance to win the game in the last second.

"Fortunately Milton was in the right place and tipped home a shot as the buzzer sounded."

Thunder had lost five successive league games but could still make a push for the play-offs.

Hildreth added: "We know we have been competitive in every game this year and don't feel our record in the league is a true reflection of our talent and hard work.

"Hopefully this will now spark a mini run before the Christmas break but, as always, one game at a time."

Chavis finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds while Hank Rivers went for 23 and 12.

Our video shows Chavis in action at home to Kent recently, driving to the basket for two baskets in quick succession.
