Jonny Taylor and Steph Twell narrowly missed out on breaking the course record at the Brighton Marathon 10k.

Taylor was two seconds outside the time set by Nick McCormick in the inaugural race last year as he equalled his personal best of 29min.13sec.

Adam Hickey was five seconds back in second with Callum Hawkins a further three seconds behind as nine men finished inside 30 minutes. Ben Tickner was the leading Sussex runner in fourth place in 29min.26sec.

Twell dominated the women’s race from start to finish as she crossed the line nearly a minute ahead of defending champion Alyson Dixon.

Twell’s time of 32min.49sec was 14 seconds outside Dixon’s course record but put her second in the current UK rankings. Helen Clitheroe was third in 34min.10sec.
