Chris Eubank senior has blasted back at promoter Frank Warren for criticising the handling of his son’s career.

Warren has blamed Eubank senior for blocking a money-spinning summer rematch between Eubank Jr and Billy Joe Saunders and claimed he has placed “outrageous obstacles” in the way.

Warren wants Eubank junior to vacate his WBA belt so the fight can go ahead but Eubank senior says this is “disrespectful” and “unfair”.

Eubank Jr lost on a split decision against Saunders, when the British, European and Commonwealth belts were up for grabs, last November.

He returned to the ring to beat Russian Dmitry Chudinov to claim the WBA interim belt in February.

Saunders, who is managed by Warren, will not fight Eubank Jr with the WBA belt on the line because it will damage his position as the WBO’s mandatory No.1 challenger for the injured Andy Lee’s world title.

But Eubank senior says Warren needs to find a compromise so the fight can happen.

He said: “Chris Eubank Jr has worked for ten years to win the opportunity to contest his first world title, albeit interim.

“Demanding that he gives up his hard earned championship and belt, is asking him to disrespect all of the hard work he has done, as well as give up his number two position to challenge for Gennady Golovkin’s WBA super-championship title.

“What has been inferred is that the WBA interim belt he holds means little or nothing and can be easily given up, yet in truth it represents what he has worked so hard for and means everything to him.

“The fighters want this rematch as much as the public but to ask junior to give up a belt because the WBA and WBO cannot work together or agree on a way forward, is neither fair nor just.

“It is something that the public should be made aware of and that the fighter and his management team are not held accountable for.”

Eubank senior insists they still want the fight to go ahead.

He said: “Team Eubank were not the ones to walk away from this fight and even offered to pay an official fee to the controlling bodies to have this fight for no titles, but we have been informed by Frank Warren & Co. that this is not yet possible or sanctioned.

“There has to be a way that this much demanded rematch can take place, and we are more than willing, ready and able to make this happen with the only exception being giving up the existing WBA belt.”
