JOHANNA Konta has played down her Eastbourne exploits as she heads for Wimbledon.

The Sussex ace lost in three sets in the quarter-finals yesterday to rising Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic.

The 146th ranked Konta shrugged off illness to beat three players in the world's top 34 before her narrow defeat by Bencic, the world No. 31.

She said: "Hopefully this is not the last time I beat a top ten or a top 20. I'm happy with how I did but I'm not idolising this week in any way and I'm just looking forward to being ready for my next competition now. I'm lucky enough that it's Wimbledon.

Konta, awarded a wildcard for both Eastbourne and Wimbledon, will discover her first round opponent when the draw is made today.

She has fallen at the opening hurdle in each of the last three years.

Unseeded Bencic faces second seed and world No.5 Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-finals of the Aegon International at Devonshire Park today.

The other semi-final is between Polish ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska and American non-seed Sloane Stephens.
