Johanna Konta has been urged to enjoy her Wimbledon showdown with Maria Sharapova.

The Sussex ace has been paired against the fourth seed and 2004 champion in the first round on Monday after reaching the quarter-finals of her home town tournament in Eastbourne this week.

It guarantees Konta showcourt billing again following three centre court wins, including two against top 20 players, in the Aegon International at Devonshire Park.

Former Sussex star Clare Wood was beaten on the centre court at Wimbledon by Steffi Graf in straight sets 22 years ago.

Wood, now the assistant referee at Wimbledon, told The Argus: "The day I played Steffi I remember how special it was walking from the locker room to centre court.

"My advice to Jo would be to enjoy it. As a home player this is what you aspire to and dream of, playing the best on the biggest courts in the world with all the support behind you."

Wildcard Konta has never won at Wimbledon but Sharapova could be rusty in her first outing on grass this year. The British No.2, ranked 146, said on twitter: "I believe in my ability, I've absolutely nothing to lose and I'm going to go out there and do everything I can."

World No.5 Caroline Wozniacki became the latest Eastbourne injury casualty yesterday. The Dane lasted three games before retiring from her semi-final against Belinda Bencic with back trouble, leaving the 18-year-old Swiss to face Polish ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in today's final.
