RONNIE DAVIES admitted he was a proud man after being inducted into the British Ex-Boxers Hall of Fame.

The Brighton trainer and manager, who guided Chris Eubank to world titles at two weights, was among those honoured at the Masonic Hall in Hastings at the inaugural event.

Davies, who trains Chris Eubank Jr and was with his father Chris senior during his heyday as a two-time world champion, said: “I was chuffed. It is special to be recognised by your own people in boxing and I am very proud.”

Davies and Chris Sanigar were rewarded for their services as managers.

Davies’ old rival Jimmy Tibbs, who now trains Billy Joe Saunders having worked with Nigel Benn when he was Eubank senior’s arch rival, was inducted for his work as a professional trainer.

Former undisputed middleweight champion Alan Minter was inducted for his achievements as a professional boxer along with Denis Andries. Minter was accompanied by his son Ross, the former WBO welterweight title challenger.

All the invited inductees turned up apart from promoter Barry Hearn with president John Conteh among the star-studded line-up at the sold-out dinner.

Brighton Ex-boxers president Ernie Price said: “It was the most marvellous day.

“I don’t think anyone could have imagined how well it would go.

“There was a lot of emotion. It was really emotional for those who were recognised and also those there. It was a fantastic occasion.

“All credit to the organiser Dave Harris and his committee. Everything from the food to the venue was excellent.

“This is going to be very big. It is going to get bigger and bigger.”

The Lonsdale belt once owned by Turpin was also on display.
