DOUBLE World Cup winning prop Owen Franks has played down claims he is part of the best rugby team the game has ever seen.

Having played all 80 minutes in the 2011 final against France, the tighthead started the 34-17 win over Australia four years on, but isn't too keen banging his own drum when it comes to titles.

"It makes us feel pretty proud," he said.

"It's no secret that our goal was to win two World Cups back-to-back and to be called one of the greatest teams - you won't hear any of us going round and saying that but all the goals we set ourselves we've gone and achieved so it's something to guys will be pretty proud of."

He and brother Ben celebrated their first World Cup by squatting 240kg the following day, but there was no repeat performance this time around.

Instead, he had to make do with celebrating with some All Black legend who will never pull on the famous jersey again.

The likes of Dan Carter, Ma'a Nonu, Conrad Smith, Tony Woodcock and Keven Mealamu have all called time on their international careers with Richie McCaw considering his future after 148 caps.

Franks said he thought McCaw and Carter were the best two All Blacks of all time -echoing head coach Steve Hanson's comments - and said: "It's something you don't think about but I guess when you retire and look back at the players you've played with then I'll be pretty thankful."
