Steven King has described the prospect of an FA Cup showdown with Premier League Everton as “an absolute dream”.

The Hawks will visit the Toffees in the third round of the famous competition should they beat Dagenham and Redbridge in a second round replay at the Enclosed Ground.

Albion, meanwhile, must visit fellow Championship side Hull City, with the third round ties being played January 8-11.

While the Seagulls contemplate a long trip to Yorkshire, Whitehawk potentially facing Everton is what the FA Cup is all about.

National League south Hawks were playing in the County League as recently as five years ago and had never reached the first round of the FA Cup in their 70-year history before this season.

Boss King said: “The draw is an absolute dream for Whitehawk Football Club.

“If we were lucky enough to go through it would be an unbelievable game. It could be a million pound game and would earn the club a ridiculous amount of money.

“But we are not there yet, we have to get through first and that won’t be easy. Until then, I won’t have my players talking about Everton in the dressing room.

“Dagenham will want this as much as us. They will be fired up and in their minds they can’t play any worse than they did on Sunday. The replay will be a tough game for us.”

King was manager of Macclesfield Town when they reached the fourth round of the FA Cup in 2012-13 before losing 1-0 to Premier League Wigan who were managed by Roberto Martinez, now manager of Everton.

The Hawks boss said: “It would be good to go up against Roberto again should we get through.

“He spoke to me after the Macclesfield game and complimented me on the way we passed the ball, the way we played, our style. He was a gentleman.”

Whitehawk drew 1-1 at Dagenham on Sunday when substitute Jordan Rose headed an equaliser deep into stoppage time.

The replay is scheduled to take place next Tuesday but the date is still to be confirmed.

Should the Hawks get through, the Everton tie would almost certainly be televised.

The draw for Albion has a knock-on effect in that the fourth round will take on the weekend of January 30 when the Seagulls were due to be away to Hull in the Championship.

That game will now be moved to a midweek date.
