Chris Eubank Junior's next fight will be for the British title.
The Brighton fighter’s father, Chris senior, confirmed Junior, who is the mandatory for the WBA world middleweight title, is in negotiations for a clash with champion Nick Blackwell in February or March.
The Argus reported after he beat Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan in his final eliminator for the WBA title held by Daniel Jacobs that Eubank Jr was ready to go after his dream of winning the British belt.
Eubank Jr split from Matchroom last week after two fights of a three-fight deal after promoter Eddie Hearn lost the purse bid to stage the British showdown.
Eubank senior also says negotiations have begun with Frank Warren over a rematch with Billy Joe Saunders, who claimed Andy Lee’s WBO world middleweight belt last Saturday on a majority decision.
Two-weight world champion Eubank senior said: “The world championship fight with Jacobs, it can be at a later point. For February or March, Team Eubank only ever wanted the British.”
