Bognor’s fairytale FA Trophy run continued as they beat Torquay United 1-0 at Nyewood Lane to book their place in the semi-finals.

On-loan Portsmouth midfielder Snorre Nilsen scored the only goal four minutes after half-time to put the Rocks two games from Wembley.

The result was fully deserved as they outplayed their National League premier opponents and could have won by more if Alex Parson’s effort in the first half had not been ruled out.

Torquay had a strong wind at their backs in the first half and penned Bognor in their own half in the opening stages.

They were unable to take advantage of a succession of corners, however, and the home side began to get a foothold in the game.

The visitors should have taken the lead in the 24th minute when they caught Bognor out on the counter-attack. Iffy Allen played in Andrew Wright but his weak shot was easy for goalkeeper Grant Smith.

If that was straightforward for Smith his second save was anything but as he somehow tipped a volley from Allen on to the post with Wright’s follow-up cleared off the line by a defender.

After surviving those two scares Bognor created two excellent chances of their own just before half-time.

A shot from Doug Tuck went straight to Jason Prior whose effort on the turn beat goalkeeper Daniel Lavercombe only to roll agonisingly wide.

The Rocks had the ball in the back of the net in the 44th minute only for the celebrations of the crowd to be cut short when it was disallowed.

James Crane’s effort was pushed up into the air by Lavercombe and Nilsen looked certain to score but his header hit Alex Parsons on the arm before he blasted into an empty net.

Bognor did get their noses in front four minutes after the interval. Ollie Pearce curled a shot against the underside of the bar but this time Nilsen made no mistake as he headed the rebound in from a couple of yards.

Torquay responded to falling behind by taking control of the game but were unable to really trouble a well-organised Bognor defence.

The closest they came to an equaliser was a low shot from Courtney Richards with 11 minutes to go which Smith did well to turn around his near post.
