Chris Eubank senior says his son is like a wild horse who can be steered but not tamed.

Former two-weight world champion Eubank senior will be in the corner with trainer Ronnie Davies calling the shots tomorrow night when his son fights Nick Blackwell.

Adam Booth, David Hayes’ former trainer, co-trained Eubank Jr with Davies in the build-up to his last fight but has been conspicuous by his absence in the preparations for this British title challenge.

Eubank senior admitted bringing in different people had not worked.

Asked if Booth was now out of the picture, Eubank senior said: “Let me put it this way, it takes an older stallion to train a new one. If you’re not a stallion, you can’t handle them or control them because they are wild.

“It was thought by other trainers that junior was a thoroughbred, and the way you deal with them is to walk away and let them follow. No. He’s not a thoroughbred because they are already trained. Stallions stay wild and you have to be a master to stay with them.

“I’ve saddled him up, the straps are under his stomach and I am on top but he’s bucking. But I am staying on and he’s not throwing me because I’ve been there and he needs steering.”

We’ll put that down as a yes then.

And Eubank senior says he sees a lot of himself in his son as he prepares to take a firmer grip on the reins.

“He has been possessed and is obsessed (by boxing). When you are that way, you hit your target,” said Eubank senior “I know about focus, application and persistence. The guys who have a plan, apply focus and persist do usually make it.

“But the guy who is obsessed – he makes it and he does not lose to the guy who is just focused. Obsessed is the key.

“I didn’t make him obsessed as you cannot make someone obsessed. There is some rage which lives within.

“I was obsessed and Ronnie (Davies) says he is no different to how I was. Very difficult.

“We’ve brought in other people and it doesn’t work.”

Eubank senior believes he is better qualified than anyone to be in his son’s corner.

He said: “Who more than me should be there? Who is more qualified than me? Has a coach got a trump card over a world champion?”

And dad says he will crack the whip this time if he thinks it is needed.

He added: “I’ve said you’ve made one mistake before I am not going to allow you to make another. If you’re falling behind, don’t worry I am going to be on you this time.”
