Chris Eubank Jr is understood to be on the brink of signing a deal to fight Gennady Golovkin worth at least £3 million.

The Brighton fighter’s representatives appear close to clinching a contract to clash with the current WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight world champion in September, probably at the 02 Arena, London.

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has said an agreement is very close with Eubank Jr, 26, the underdog for an expected Sky Box Office pay-per-view blockbuster.

Talks took place with Sky on Monday and the paperwork could be completed today with an official announcement expected next week.

Chris Eubank Senior, the former two-weight world champion, told The Argus after his son’s defence of his British middleweight belt last Saturday that brokering a pay-per-view deal with Sky had been the potential stumbling block but that obstacle appears to have been overcome.

Eubank has one defeat in 24 fights while Kazakhstan’s Golovkin has a perfect 35-0 record, with 32 wins by knockout.
