Hawks make second major signing

Whitehawk have completed their second major signing of the week by snapping up vastly experienced striker Scott McGleish from Bristol Rovers.

McGleish has scored 209 Football League goals in 692 appearances in an 18-year professional career covering spells at Charlton Athletic, Leyton Orient, Peterborough, Colchester, Cambridge United, Barnet, Northampton, Wycombe Wanderers and Bristol Rovers.

Although now 38, he netted nine goals for the Pirates last season but was released at the end of the season and has opted to go part-time with Whitehawk despite an offer to stay in the Football League.

He joins fellow new Hawks signing Matt Lawrence, who arrived from Gillingham earlier in the week.

Crikey!!! is this wind up merchant still going?? I can remember being in the north stand when he decided that a hand gesture was applicable probably not his best move. Guess he will score goals at this level though!!!

McGleish is a terrific lower league pro now winding down his career.
That incident in 1997(!) has become part of Albion myth. It seems very likely that it wasn't McGleish at all but another Orient striker. Still, we can't let the truth get in the way of 15 years of embarrassing bitterness.

It looks as though everything is in place for a promotion challenge. Now all they need is some supporters.

Eh? Why does it seem unlikely? It was Scott McGleish and there is absolutley no doubt about it - I can vouch for that, I was there.

I was there as well, Scotts crime was to do his trademark somersault in front of the home fans after scoring, there was no hand gesture. You lot were just upset at losing a 2 goal lead. still the ref saved you at the end with one of the worst penalty decisions i have ever seen to make it 4-4.

Thanks albionite, i might be getting old but im sure it was him. Although my view may have been blockd by hundreds of other albion fans reacting to the same thing. No bitterness on my side just a comment

It was 110% not Scott McGleish that done the hand gesture. get the facts correct people!
This man will score loads of goals this season as he knows where the goal is and will be a class act at this level.

Are you serious?

All those years spent building up the youth policy at Whitehawk were a waste of time.
Two 38 year olds.
Not exactly building for the future.

Sex and drugs and rock and roll!

Home to Lowestoft first match.
Nobody in Whitehawk will have a clue where Lowestoft is.Especially Subnormal Sid!
Lucky it's at home.
Sid will be there with his extended inbred family.
If they get more than 200 spectators Paul Hubbard will swim back to the beach at Kemp Town, jog up Dukes Mound, sprint along Arundel road then wander along the campsite road looking for a REAL Whitehawk FC person.

In fact he'll do it naked quoting Shelley,Keats and Betjemen.
That would be really poetic.

A whitehawk player,stood alone,waiting for his money.
Hand extended,almost begging.
Thinking "This ain't funny."
They said I'd get a grand a week.
Playing for this ****.
Now it's christmas,we've lost ten games and they're saying money's tight.
Fifty fans won't pay my wedge
The whole things gone tits up
For half a million they're gonna want more than the Senior Cup.
