Micky Adams has no qualms about taking Albion back to the Republic of Ireland to launch their pre-season programme.

The Seagulls fly out on Monday for a mini training camp, culminating in a friendly against Athlone Town on Wednesday (7.30).

Adams cancelled Albion's game at Athlone seven years ago after trouble erupted in the previous match against Longford.

He ordered his team off the pitch near the end of a stormy first half, with Charlie Oatway and Longford defender Alan Murphy in the process of being sent-off.

"Somebody has already asked me to justify the trip to Ireland," Adams said. "I don't really have to justify anything.

"As far as I am concerned, we are going away together, away from our families and loved ones, and we are going to find out about each other.

"We can't do that unless we take on trips and we are going to Ireland because of that.

"It's a very short trip. We go out on Monday evening and we are back on Thursday. It's one game and four days away from the training ground.

"Running around the training ground can get a bit monotonous and I thought it was important that we get away somewhere, even for such a short spell."

The players will encounter spartan living conditions at Albion's Ballygar training base.

Adams said: "You can rest assured they are not staying in five-star accomodation. I spoke to my Irish contact and asked him what is in the rooms. He said a bed and a sink!"

A sink AND a bed? When I were a nipper we had to choose. And if we wanted the sink, we had to use our winkles for a plug.

Luxury, sheer extravagant luxury, we have to sleep in the centre circle on the pitch we played on....The lucky player getting the trainers sponge to use as a pillow !

Nice to hear Micky saying he does not have to justify himself, does it matter if its Ireland or Le Harve where we have been for the past couple of years great idea of team building getting the players together instilling a sence of purpose and unity. Cant wait for the season to start with the new signings and the change of the fans on here ie no bloody moaning we have no one to fear in our league promotion is ours for the taking. Let the manager manage the players play and the supporters support come on you seagulls.
