It's only a slight exaggeration to credit Lee Rous and Andy Gardner with saving the breaks scene from the dilapidation it was suffering during their emergence in 1999, and the rampage they have been on since then is testament to their status
in the genre.
They've soundtracked Levi's commercials and Playstation games in between collaborating with the likes of Gary Numan and, after three years of "being strapped to their synths in the depths of Laboratoire Plump", third album Headthrash is slated for release in early June.
The clubbing addicts met when Gardner began DJing at Rous's popular Passenger night in London.
"So many people were going down there, there was so much energy," says Rous, hinting at the zip their
sets always brim with.
"He wanted more gigs and I wanted to get into the studio, so the Plumps were born."
High-tempo mixing ensures the duo spring a few surprises, from funk and heavy bass to Balearic rhythms.

Their instalment in the Fabriclive mix series received great critical acclaim and became such a commercial success that the London superclub offered the duo a quarterly night of their own.
