The Marilyn Monroe Show, The Parlure Spiegeltent, Brighton, until May 25

In order to explore the complexity of Monroe's life, three actresses are used.

There is Norma Jean, young, shy and insecure, always wanting to be loved.

Marilyn, sex goddess, part self-created and part studio-made. Finally Zelda Zonk, the star's intellectual alter-ego, forever battling against the dumb blonde image.

The show delivers a fast-moving and dramatic account touching briefly on major points in her life, moving from wistful young dreams through fame to the inevitable tragic end.

Musically, it's a mixed bag, with some songs enhancing the storyline and others holding it up. In My Dreams is a touching ballad that allows Diana Chrisman to establish Norma's fragility. Jessica Sherman, Zelda, makes a dramatic impact with the number that depicts Monroe's life spinning out of control.

Evelyn Connors' impersonation of Marilyn is remarkable, although occasionally in getting the voice right there is a slight loss of audibility.
