"I believe cakes made with love and music taste better" Sharon Elizabeth told us as she opened her one-woman show Ising On The Cake.

To prove her point, the former Kate's Cakes bakery manager entertained her audience for the next hour with a selection of songs, from show tunes to opera, while baking a chocolate fudge cake on stage.

Multi-tasking at its best, Sharon Elizabeth impressed us with both her singing and cake-making abilities.

Styled on the domestic goddess of the 1950s - imagine a singing Nigella Lawson - Sharon Elizabeth took us through the various steps of making a cake with a variety of fun numbers, including a song about the joys of licking the spoon.

At the same time she gave the audience a condensed version of her life story and how she came to become a singing cake-maker.

Accompanied by the Kitchen Sink Trio, on piano, violin and guitar, Sharon Elizabeth also passed on some important cake-making lessons, such as when you ice a cake you must sing it a lullaby because rock songs will make the icing lumpy.

The finale of her quirky show was a powerful rendition of Nessun Dorma, during which Sharon Elizabeth stood proudly on stage brandishing her finished cake in the air.

After a cup of tea and a slice of chocolate cake, courtesy of Kate's Cakes, the second half of the show consisted of a cabaret performance.

Sharon Elizabeth ditched the apron and took to the stage in an sexy scarlet evening dress.

But although there's no doubt she can sing, you couldn't help but miss the ditzy singing cake-maker.
