Jodi Picoult and Will Self, Old Market, Hove, April 23 to April 24
With the Brighton Children's Book Festival looking after younger readers, City Books is offering a couple of great nights at Hove's Old Market for adults in love with the printed word.
New Hampshire-based author Jodi Picoult has 15 novels to her credit, including her latest, Change Of Heart, which hit the top of the New York Times bestseller list on release.
The former English teacher and ad copywriter's 2004 novel My Sister's Keeper has just been made into a film starring Cameron Diaz.
She also recently wrote five issues of the DC comic Wonder Woman. Jodi will be at the Old Market on April 23 reading from her latest novel, which focuses on New Hampshire's first death row prisoner in 69 years, whose dying wish is to donate his heart to the sister of his victim.
April 24 sees cult favourite Will Self return to Hove to talk about and read from his new novel The Butt.
Will is also a political journalist, famous for his Psychogeography columns in The Independent, and a regular television panellist, including a memorable stint as a team captain on Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer's Shooting Stars.
His new novel is set in a country that is part Australia, part Iraq and part Greenland and follows the story of holidaymaker Tom, whose decision to flick a cigarette butt off his hotel balcony turns into a nightmare as he gets accused of attempted murder.
Simon Callow also pays The Old Market a visit on Friday, April 25, at 1pm - see pages 12 and 13 for more information.
Starts 6.30pm, tickets £6 each including a free glass of wine. Call 01273 736222.
