DIRECTOR Ian McDonald
followed gay football
team the Brighton
Bandits last season
when they were league
champions.
The players trusted him
to come into their lives,
talking about their
relationships, coming
out stories and views on
homophobia and football.
There were poignant
moments, but the film was
not over-earnest and did
not make you feel sorry
for the team because life
has not always been easy.

Rather, they came across
as strong, positive,
enthusiastic players who
have had their share of
glory and are enjoying
being a rare breed - out,
gay footballers.
Watching the screening
with the team and their
friends, there were loads
of laughs at the locker
room banter and those
who use half time to have
a cigarette.
This was a very funny
film which allowed the
Bandits to shine.
