Paul Sinha, Komedia, Brighton, March 30

6:00am Tuesday 1st April 2008

By Nione Meakin »

Paul Sinha is almost too clever for his own good.

In this admirably crafted, hugely inventive hour-in-the-life of the UK's premier "gay, Bengali, GP-turned-stand-up", the wit came in so many forms and from so many angles, it took a few seconds to really process it. A few seconds Sinha rarely granted.

What started as a line about the nonsensical misogyny surrounding women in football had morphed into a witty and multi-pronged take on stereotyping before you had time to think: "Look out Stewart Lee."

It was exhilarating to be saturated in such a hailstorm of humour but invariably meant playing catch-up in place of appreciating the next gag.

And there was so much material to enjoy - all delivered with the charming, slightly nerdy eloquence of someone who could probably talk their way in or out of any situation. Catch him if you can.
