Dressed in red leather, hosts-with-the-most Topping and Butch formed the glue between a trio of acts, gently pressing their risque, news-led material upon a willing crowd.
He may have resembled a bouncer from Neasden, but Jeff Innocent knew exactly how to take the mike in both senses, rolling out barrels full of artlessly witty material.
If Lorraine Bowen would only stop fluttering around and lose the flutey voice, she might be onto something. As it was, her comic songs fizzled out after the first verse, as did her set after the first five minutes.
Janey Godley is from a Glasgow so poor that when your dad dies people ask, "What size was his shoes?" A woman obsessed by cushions, she welcomed us into the strange living room of her mind, poured us a cup of her heady humour and sent us on our way home.
