Jekyll and Hyde The Musical, The Barn, Southwick, until April 19

React Theatre Productions, a company of mainly young actors, has done it again. Having successfully mounted a production of Les Miserables it now follows up with an equally challenging musical.

The story is a dark one, telling of a scientist whose investigations into man's sinister nature consume him and lead to murder.

Marc Valentine in the title role delivers an incredible performance. His powerful voice thrills and his acting chills as he metamorphoses into the evil Hyde.

As his fiancee, Emma, Rosie Evans provides a sweetness and innocence in contrast to Lucy, a prostitute from the darker side of his life. Katy Markey handles Lucy's ballads well - all wistful and touching - but in the big number, Bring On The Men, is a tad too genteel and needs to be raunchier.

A large cast give good support and excel in the ensemble numbers FaÁade and Murder, Murder.
