Be grateful

7:19pm Monday 30th November 2009

Last year there was much publicity about a public demonstration against Starbucks coffee shop in St James’s Street, Kemp Town, Brighton.

I was one resident living nearby who approved of Starbucks.

Councillors Rachel Fryer and Ben Duncan had the temerity to complain that Starbucks were abusing local planning laws.

Fortunately Starbucks eventually won their planning appeal and have been operating happily in St James’s Street ever since.

On Friday, the St James’s Local Action Team and Business Group organised a Christmas Street celebration in George Street when Michelle Collins of EastEnders switched on the Christmas lights.

Who were the largest financial supporters of this event? Starbucks, with a £3,000 donation towards the Christmas lights.

I hope the protesters and councillors realise they were misguided and might now show some gratitude to Starbucks.
