Throwing decency out of the window

A long time ago, I was walking through a town in Switzerland smoking a cigarette and when it came to discarding it I noticed everywhere I would have thrown it was immaculately clean, without even a cigarette end or matchstick, even in the gutters.

I was embarrassed so, making sure it was safe, I put it in my pocket until I came across the proper rubbish bin.

A few days ago I drove along the bypass from Brighton to Shoreham and for mile after mile I thought I was on a long drive to a council rubbish tip, as the road verges were, and are, non-stop covered in rubbish.

This can only have found its way there by being thrown out of vehicle windows by people who don’t give a damn and care nothing for local or national pride.

In short, a very large number of us are throwing common decency out of the window.

Now TP Bishop, I've seen Switzerland during Christmas time and like you I found it too clean and too spotless to obsessing point. I'll prefer a middle way between them and us?
