Park ’n’ shop

With reference to the deliveries at the new Sainsburys and Tesco stores (The Argus, March 13): This situation has been going on for a while, in addition to the ludicrous parking along the whole of Western Road, most notably opposite The Providence pub by the taxis and by the post office.

This is now being made harder by the “just be a minute” people who park to use the cash machine or pop to the shop.

There was an opportunity when the alcohol licence was put in to restrict loading times – however it was not within the licensing restriction guidelines.

It is time this entire stretch of road was properly controlled. Browsing Google Street View (BN1 2AD) will show the state of parking abuse on this road. Highway code 243 covers this situation nicely: “Do not stop or park opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle.”

The traffic situation here is bad. Much more control is needed. Why people need to take their cars to a local shop I cannot work out.
Now they are selling Booze the traffic will increase as their prices will attract the local 'drinkers'

But the Conservative Councillors demand that people should have the right to use their cars to go shopping and bring them into town whenever they want. It is their right to clog up our roads and park wherever they may please and block buses and other legitimate users by their selfish parking.
