Why are the Brighton marathon organisers using the tagline “London by the sea” in all their promotional activities? It’s actually quite insulting to people who were born and live in Brighton.

London is London and Brighton is Brighton. They’re both completely different places and this is not the way to integrate a large event into the local community. I am participating in the event but want to register my strong objection to this tag.

I agree. I couldn't understand what this statement was supposed to say about Brighton. It seems to suggest that the only way the organisers could attract people here was by comparisons with London.

I love how, under "why hold a Brighton marathon?" they didn't say that we have a beautiful city, or a unique chance for a seafront marathon, or a new challenge for runner.

Nope, they said "London has to turn away 100,000 people".

They may as well have the slogan "Brighton Marathon - your second choice when you can't run London"

Errr .... as a Brighton born and bred person I dont' find it insulting. I don't even find it mildly irritating. So don't assume we're all as anally retentive as you. There are much bigger issues out there so get over it.

Brighton's been called Little London for as long as I can remember. It's a compliment. It means that we're pretty much as cosmopolitan as London. Utter rubbish, of course, as is shown by this letter. Nice that some people think so, though.

Hahaha. I used to live in London for many many years. Brighton is nothing like London. London is multicultural, diverse, classy, and has a wealth of large chain department stores, local shops, markets, gorgeous parks, etc etc.

Brighton has none of the above. London by sea? More like Croydon by sea if you ask me!
