I am appalled to read that Brighton and Hove City Council is proposing to ban strong lagers from being sold on licensed premises (The Argus, March 12).
This would just be a cosmetic exercise because if drinkers want to drink strong drinks they will graduate to wines and spirits.
Where are these many children, who finish up in A&E, getting their drinks? It’s not the shops selling it because there are stringent rules and regulations, together with test purchases by under-age persons under the supervision of an officer, already in place from the licensing department of Brighton and Hove City Council.
More effort must be made to stop the kids getting booze, mainly from older members of the public or their parents, who should be made even more aware of the severe fines in place for this offence.
