A return to hunting with hounds?

The Tories have pledged a free vote in Parliament, if they win the election, to repeal the Hunting Act.

They claim it doesn’t work, which implies that hunters are exploiting various loopholes to carry on hunting – surely a breach of the spirit of the Act which represented the views of the vast majority of the population, both urban and rural.

If any democratically passed law is being broken it needs strengthening, not scrapping. Pro-hunt activists are working around the country to secure the seat for sympathetic prospective candidates.

If this Act is repealed it will mean not only a return of fox hunting but also hare coursing and stag hunting. Before you place your vote it may be worth giving that a thought.

It is a pity that the same concern isn't applied to the care of animals we rear for food. The number of foxes killed is insignificant compared to the suffering of aninals we keep for food.

True, but no-one eats foxes.
