Anyone would think it was being suggested that meetings of Brighton and Hove City Council should be held in the nude judging from the prudish reaction of council leader Mary Mears to the proposed naked bike ride (The Argus, May 25) which aims to raise awareness of the vulnerability of cyclists.
Whatever happened to the Brighton which used to revel in the saucy reputation which helped set it apart from other rather staid seaside towns?
One would also have thought that Coun Mears might have had rather more important issues to attend to than formally complaining to the police about the bike ride which she claims is indecent and sleazy. Surely the solution is quite simple: those of a gentle disposition who feel they may be traumatized by the sight of bared breast or buttock should give the event a wide berth.
