Regarding the Naked Bike Ride (The Argus, May 25): Two years ago I happened to be with my family in a restaurant in East Street. We had a number of young grandchildren with us and as we came out of the restaurant these naked bike riders happened to come past.

I couldn’t believe my eyes.

It wasn’t the naked bike riders who caught my eye but the police officers leading this parade on their bikes. At least they were fully clothed.

The grandchildren were pointing to these naked bike riders and saying, “Look, they have no clothes on”.

I am far from being a prude. I think I have seen just about everything you can imagine in my life but people riding naked through the streets of Brighton isn’t on. These people are not really protestors. They are exhibitionists. I cannot believe the police have given permission for this stupid exhibition yet again. Doesn’t indecency come into it?

We won’t tolerate pictures of naked children and yet it is all right for children to see naked men and women.

Something isn’t quite right in my mind. I certainly agree with Coun Mears in her effort to get this ridiculous so-called protest cancelled for all time.

Let’s not have any more of this. Let them make their protest, whatever it is supposed to be, but make them dress properly. There is a beach on Madeira Drive for people who wish to prance about naked.

We agree with Mary Mears and Adam Trimingham on the subject of the Naked Bike Ride.

We had thought it would be a criminal offence, but according to The Sexual Offences Act 2003, the person(s) doing such things “must intend that someone will see and be caused alarm or distress”.

Either way, it’s a disgusting spectacle and you really have to question the agenda and moral principles of those involved. Are children being allowed to participate? If so, just what sort of perverts will be attracted to such an event?

People look far better with their clothes on. I am very much against naked riders. These people must be exhibitionists. It’s quite disgusting.

Last time it happened a friend visiting from London was shocked. Where are the police? Isn’t indecency a crime?

Whatever next?

Can someone please inform A Gumbrill (Letters, June 2) that you don’t need to be naked to watch the naked bike ride.

Or indeed to take part.
