By allowing coaches to park free in Roedean Way (The Argus, July 17) we, the taxpayers, are losing thousands of pounds every year.
The current rate for coaches in Madeira Drive, where they should be, is £15 – and assuming 30 coaches park in Roedean Way for 80 days per year, the loss is £36,000 per year.
However, the current tariff for coaches is very low compared with cars. In a car you can pay £5 per day or £1.25 per person (assuming four per car) but assuming 40 passengers in a coach they are only paying 38p each. Raising the tariff slightly would have little impact on this per-passenger rate.
Another idea for raising revenue is sponsorship for suitable gardens. There must be many more.
