Block the view

Regarding the impending decision to move this seafront shelter by a metre to avoid the cycling lane (The Argus, July 27): according to your article, this will cost thousands of pounds and many man hours.

Instead of paying out all this money in today’s financial climate, why not block up this entrance? Surely no one actually wants to sit facing the traffic, cyclists and the hotels and shops?

Audrey Todd Park Road, Burgess Hill Good planning Once again, here in Sussex, from Hastings in the east to The Witterings in the west, there are road works clogging up every road to the coast at the height of the summer season.

Another example of great forward planning, don’t you think?

Since there is no record of any accidents because of the position of this bus shelter and cycle lane, why not just do nothing or put up a slow sign for the cyclists? This situation must have exited for well over five years without incidents.

Yeah, and crush the cars of speeding motorists, and burn pedestrians who cross when the little man is red...

I don't think that's a positive contribution at all. They shouldn't be there, but the law as it stands is good enough. Spot fines and leniency.

If they are cycling dangerously, throw the book at them, if they are being conscientious the what's the big problem. After all motor cars are allowed to drive on the pavement aren't they?
