Nature nurture

HERE we go again, meddling with nature (The Argus, June 17).

If these herring gull chicks were nesting on the cliffs, they would probably have perished.

I know it seems harsh, but it is nature’s way of keeping the gull population down.

Now these gulls will mature and be raiding smaller birds’ nests, stealing eggs and fledglings. Then the cry will be “where have all the sparrows, blackbirds and thrushes gone?”

I know rescue centres are run with good intent but don’t upset the balance of nature.
