Noise goes on

MAY I thank Tim Ridgway for the accuracy of his story on the statistics in my noise diary (The Argus, January30).

However, I am completely mystified by the comments of a Brighton and Hove City Council spokeswoman saying it has “dealt with all these reported complaints”. Let me make it quite clear: although the council has been instrumental in creating the conditions that I and hundreds of people are now suffering from – by handing out late and all-night licences – policing street noise is none of their concern and I have never dealt with anyone from the council on this issue.

I can only conclude that, in the desire to project the idea that everything in the city is rosy, the spokeswoman did not listen carefully to the content of the article, which is why we are in this situation in the first place.
