TIME is just a convenient division of the day into hours, and a key hour is noon. At noon the sun is due south, and at its highest point in the sky for the day.
For us in Brighton, very close to the Greenwich Meridian which crosses the cliffs in Peacehaven, local noon is effectively the same as GMT noon, which gives us a clear understanding – when it’s noon, the sun has reached its zenith, the morning is over and the afternoon begins.
To mess about with permanent double summer time or any other nonsense just confuses our relationship with time and daylight. No amount of tinkering will generate more hours of daylight in any particular day, so stop messing with the clocks and leave GMT alone.
