Private plans

SO THE planning committee has given its approval for the redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital. We could eventually end up with a magnificent facility fit for the 21st century.

Bravo, but what sort of NHS will we have when it does open? I imagine very different from the current system, which is much-loved and acknowledged to be one of the most efficient in the world. No top-down reorganisation was promised and yet it soon became apparent creeping privatisation was being thrust upon us.

The Greeks now have to pay five euros for every visit to a doctor. Couldn’t happen here? Don’t believe it. Write to your MP about the bill going through Parliament before it’s too late. Once the changes are made, there will be no going back.

"acknowledged to be one of the most efficient in the world." By whom? Perhaps Mr Hughes would like to back up that claim. Or perhaps he would like to explain why, if the NHS is wonderful, why other countries aren't copying it.

I wonder how much it has cost me to go to the doctors, in the form of my NI contributions
