LATE last Friday afternoon, February 10, a letter from Brighton and Hove City Council’s highways department was pushed through my letter box.
It advised me that on Monday and Tuesday (13 and 14), essential highway safety maintenance work was to be carried out in Kensington Place and Tidy Street and that all parking for those two days was to be suspended. All cars were to be removed.
So, for those two days, with no notice, the owners of approximately 80 vehicles had to find somewhere else to park. Although the flyer came with an address and phone number, how could I reach anybody before the restrictions started on Monday at 8.30am?
Anybody with a permit in North Laine will know how hard it can be to find an overnight parking bay. Couldn’t the council have done one road at a time, or allowed cars from the Y Zone to park in an adjacent zone for those 48 hours?
I think this disregard for residents with cars is outrageous. We pay enough for our parking permits and council tax, and I find this treatment just rude and insulting.
