I FIND it worrying that the Western Sussex Hospital Trust cannot make use of the Harness Block at Southlands Hospital itself.
This fine (existing) facility is relatively modern, having been built in the mid-1970s at huge taxpayers’ expense.
This facility has not changed, only current NHS Management thinking has.
They seemingly think patients can be sent home and any ensuing medical problems dealt with by home visits from community nurses; a very hit-and-miss policy.
Shoreham is earmarked for massive regeneration and huge population increases. The Harness Block would be the ideal building for a community hospital, with its well-trained existing staff. It could be used for post-operative and elderly care.
Surely this is much better than relying on visiting nurses, struggling to cope in less-thanideal home environments.
