Phantom charges

10:59am Friday 16th February 2007

It was interesting to read NCP does not think its parking fees are inflated (The Argus, January 30).

I parked in the Church Street, Brighton, car park recently and paid using my Switch card.

The transaction appeared on my bank statement as coming through on January 19.

What was surprising was that on January 22 another payment with the reference "NCP Limited, Brighton Churchill" came out. I definitely did not park in the Churchill Square car park on the date listed. I wasn't even in Brighton on that day.

I contacted my bank, who advised it was not a security breach and to take the matter up with NCP.

After holding on the phone for some time, I finally spoke to a customer services representative, who advised me to write in. I did so but am still awaiting a reply.

If NCP thinks the charges mentioned in your article were not inflated, I wonder what it thinks of charging someone who has not even been to its car park?
