Chris Moyles' comment that Brighton is "full of fatties" is a fair observation of the state of not only a good percentage of the population of Brighton, but also of our country (The Argus, August 20).
It may be true that most of the overweight people Moyles observed were tourists, but Brighton as a seaside tourist town certainly isn't helping the problem with its fast-food outlets along the seafront - fish and chips, pies, burgers and doughnuts seem to be the only food options available.
Brian Oxley, who said, "I don't think Brighton is full of fat people. I've certainly never got that impression and I've lived here for a long time," clearly doesn't venture out into West Street, Madeira Drive or St James's Street where the problem is quite apparent.
Yes, it is partly the responsibility of the individual, but it is also the responsibility of government and city councils to ensure more healthy food is available, and that the typical tourist on a family budget isn't subjected to a choice of high-saturated fattie foods.
Let's lift Brighton and Hove from the decaying remnants of the 20th century.
Surely we've all had enough of rock shops, candy floss and greasy burgers?
