Loss of Art House would be a blow to our city’s cultural core

4:42pm Thursday 18th March 2010

Baffled, shocked and disappointed – none of these words are sufficient to describe how many must be feeling on hearing the news that the University Of Brighton is to suspend its Art House courses (The Argus, March 12).

Use your eyes

I have just been rereading the article about Gatehouse Lane in Burgess Hill and how it confuses sat navs and takes lorry drivers down a road they cannot exit (The Argus, March 8). I feel compelled to say that there are several inaccuracies in this story.

Furry friends

4:43pm Thursday 18th March 2010

I’m very happy the Labour Government has decided to protect badgers in England from culling. The Government-appointed Independent Scientific Group announced in June 2007 that killing badgers would not significantly reduce bovine TB and could make matters worse.

Dirty business

4:43pm Thursday 18th March 2010

If only Brighton and Hove City Council and the police would enforce the law on dog fouling in our streets with the same zest they have for levying parking fines.

Under pressure

4:44pm Thursday 18th March 2010

As council tax letters start dropping through our letterboxes confirming the county council increase of 2.5%, Argus readers may be interested to know this is not all good news. Beneath the headlines of this “smallest ever” council tax increase, essential public services are under more pressure than ever before.

Pulling strings

4:44pm Thursday 18th March 2010

I notice from the publication of the list of prospective MPs interests (The Argus, March 13) that the Tory candidates have received some useful donations from a body called the United & Cecil Club, based in Uxbridge, Middlesex. On researching this organisation it seems its purpose is to channel funds to help Tory candidates in marginal seats.

Drink to this

4:44pm Thursday 18th March 2010

I must comment on the article about a “crackdown on boozing” (The Argus, March 12) that says “under new plans pubs and off-licences would be urged to stop stocking super-strength lager and from selling alcohol at less than cost price.”

Memory serves

4:45pm Thursday 18th March 2010

So the current planning application for housing in Durrington has been turned down, much to the delight of Mr Cawson of Adur Avenue (The Argus, March 16).

A mug’s game

4:46pm Thursday 18th March 2010

Well said Mr Mullins on the charity shop prices (Letters, March 17). I visited one such shop this afternoon and found a set of four mugs at £3.99. Before Woolworths closed, I had bought my husband an identical mug for £1.

Hoping so

4:46pm Thursday 18th March 2010

After “The stadium of light”, how about christening the new Falmer site “The stadium of hope”.
