The Daniels Watts
Peter Gaut emails from Australia: "I am
trying to contact relatives of my greatuncle
Daniel Watts, born in 1888, who
married Bessie Moppett in 1919. They
had a least two children, Daniel
Vernon Watts, born in 1920, and Peter,
born about 1929.
"Either he or his father, also Daniel Watts,
worked for The Argus until well after his
retirement. I believe he had special
mention for long service or similar.
"Daniel and Bessie lived at 5 Ashford Road,
while his parents, Daniel b1856 and
Thomasine (nee Langman), lived at
25 Argyle Road, Brighton, through to 1931.
"Daniel and Thomasine had five children.
As well as their son Daniel, they had four
daughters: Ethel May b1882; my
grandmother Ellen (always known as
Nellie) b1885; Winifred Langman b1893;
and Kate Louisa b1897.
"My mother lost contact with my greatuncle
Daniel, and Bessie, Vernon and
Peter, after his parents died in 1931. She
lost contact with their children, Ethel,
Winifred and Kate at the same time.
"With 87 Watts listed in the Brighton area
phone directory and ten of those with the
initial D, I think there should be someone
out there with whom we connect.
"We, my mother Eileen (Nellie's daughter )
and I, would be grateful for any help
readers can provide."
Please email Peter at gaut2574@southern
phone.com.au or call Eileen Gaut (nee
Watts) in Essex on 01279 431592.
