Hove Recreation Ground off the Old Shoreham Road is largely devoted to rugby these days.

But football was played there for many years and this picture is of Hove White Rovers in the 1948/49 season.

Tony Ingham of Woodland Drive, who sent it in, says: "The football pitches, used during the war for growing vegetables, had been turfed and reopened. Players had to take care to avoid any flints that came up through the grass."

Mr Ingham is keen to know if any former players recognise themselves from the photograph.
