Walter Harris (1923 – 2012) Passed peacefully at Rottingdean on Sunday 29th April 2012 aged 88. A linguistics and classics scholar at Trinity Hall, Cambridge his studies were interrupted during the war when he was recruited by intelligence services, learned Japanese, and was posted to Burma, India and Singapore. After the war he returned to Cambridge and on completing his MA took up various academic positions. The treasured husband of the late Elizabeth. He will be sadly missed by his son Phillip and daughter Virginia and son- in- law Chris Wallage, his two grandchildren Robin and Zoe and great grandchildren Abigail and Lucy. He spent many active years of retirement in Rottingdean which he never wanted to leave. He was at his happiest working on restoring classic Singer cars in his garden workshop and gazing out at the lovely view towards the windmill and sea. Funeral service will be held at Woodvale Crematorium, Brighton, BN2 3QB on Monday 14th May, 2012 at 9.45 a.m.
