Argus editor Michael Beard embarked on a gruelling charity climb to Everest Base Camp.
Two days into the feat, which aims to raise £2,000 for the Argus Appeal, the team reached 3,400 metres.
Michael Beard said the group had their first view of Everest on Tuesday, November 20.
He said: “It looked so imposing.
“The first day was relatively easy but Tuesday was far more challenging.
“It was the long climb of the trek but as our guide Gelu pointed out it was not the steepest.
“That and so much more to come.
“Altitude sickness could kick in any time so we are all a little anxious.”
Other walkers on the trek are Phil Frier, the former principal of City College, Clare Rogers, the manager of the Treatment Rooms Spa in Brighton, and Steve Allen, founder of Prime Care Community Services Limited.
Michael described the moment he reached the 5,364-metres point as “very humbling”.
He said: “I won’t pretend it was easy, several of the group were hit by altitude sickness and were unable to reach base camp.
"It hit me yesterday, but I was able to walk through it.”
Once the trek was over he said he felt “tired, proud and fulfilled” following the hike of 5,364 metres.
