It has been a record-breaking year for the annual Santa Bus fundraising tour around the streets of Brighton and Hove.

The event raises thousands of pounds for The Argus Appeal and the Martlets Hospice in Hove.

Money raised through donations given during the tour stands at £13,053.70, the highest it has ever been.

Lloyds Bank matched the amount raised, bringing the grand total to 26107.40.

The final total is expected to be higher as firms such as Legal and General and Lloyds Bank often add matched funding.

Appeal co-ordinator Elsa Gillio thanked Brighton and Hove Bus Company for donating the vehicle and Legal and General, Lloyds Bank and the technical team at Theatre Royal Brighton for their support, as well as all the volunteers who helped with the collections each night.

She said: “We are very grateful for everyone’s hard work and for the money donated by the community.

“Everyone always enjoys seeing the bus each year and it is wonderful that such a large amount has been raised.”

The money will be divided between the two charities.

The Argus Appeal supports good causes across Sussex and the Martlets provides care and support for terminally ill people and their families in the city and surrounding areas.
