RACE for Life is set to return to Sussex after last year’s events were cancelled due to Covid-19 lockdowns.

The Cancer Research UK running events are due to return in the autumn with social distancing measures in place.

Money raised will help scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

Cancer Research UK spokeswoman for Sussex Lynn Daly said Race for Life offers an opportunity for people to run, walk or jog while raising money for life-saving research.

After all 400 mass participation Race for Life events across the UK were cancelled last year, she said this year’s events are more important than ever.

Participants will take part either alone or in small, socially distanced groups. Hand sanitiser will also be provided.

“We’ll ask participants to respect social distancing before, during and after the event,” Ms Daly said. “But we promise our events will remain colourful, emotional and uplifting.

“Sadly, cancer touches almost every family at some point. Every step our scientists take towards beating cancer relies on our supporters. That’s why we people to join us, to stand united and do something extraordinary to help beat cancer.”

The charity was able to spend more than £30 million in the South East last year on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research.

If any event is cancelled, participants will be entitled to a refund of their entry free or can donate the fee to Cancer Research UK.
