COMEDIAN and actor Kevin Bishop will be the special guest at a “bank holiday extravaganza” to help raise money for a homeless charity.

Knight Support’s night of DJs and live music at The Hope and Ruin in Queens Road this Bank Holiday Monday will see bands like The Quarks, Man Like Malcolm and DJ Brighton Andy Mac perform to support the homeless community in Brighton and Hove.

Kevin will be joining the night’s entertainment as the event’s MC.

The fundraiser comes as the charity restarts its regular outreach evenings with rough sleepers, after a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Secretary of the charity Andy Babbayan said that he hopes that the fundraising night can grow to become a more regular event.

“It’s going to be a really fun night, with really good quality entertainment - and all the acts are very passionate about the cause and community driven,” he said.

Andy added the charity has been oversubscribed by volunteers, with businesses in the area also helping their efforts to support more people.

He said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by their generosity and how much the charity chimes with people’s values.

“It really showcases the attitude in Brighton and Hove of actually taking responsibility for the challenges the city has.

“It’s very easy to say the council should be doing that, but we’ve all got a responsibility to keep our city great and help people that are less fortunate than we are.”

The charity, completely run by volunteers, intends to bring back its outreach evenings from next Sunday (September 5), with money from the event going towards providing essential items to homeless people and to help the charity get another van to expand their reach across the city.

Andy explained the organisation keeps its overheads to an absolute minimum, to ensure that money donated goes directly to those who need it most.

The Bank Holiday Weekend Extravaganza takes place at The Hope and Ruin in Queens Road from 8-11pm, with an entrance fee of £5 or a donation at the door.

Those unable to attend can still donate through the charity’s GoFundMe at gofund.me/544780b8.
