Golfers from across Sussex teed off to raise more than £6,000 at a charity golf event.

More than 80 golfers took part in the seventh Argus Appeal and Graves Jenkins charity tournament.

The players were in 20 teams from businesses including Bills Produce, solicitors Mayo Wynne Baxter and Flude Commercial estate agents.

They were entertained during the event at East Brighton Golf Club by former world trick shot star Paul Barrington.

The two- time British long drive champion gave a display of trick shots and power shots.

Former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Mark McGhee returned to Sussex to play in the tournament.

He was joined by other sportsmen including Sussex batsman Murray Goodwin. A presentation ceremony hosted by Phil Graves of property consultants Graves Jenkins was held in the clubhouse after the tournament.

Ian Hunter, production manager for Newsquest, publishers of The Argus, presented the prizes and gave a speech.

Elsa Gillio, Argus Appeal co-ordinator, said: “It was a fantastic day, despite the rain, which raised more than £6,000.

“That will go straight into the Argus Appeal and every penny will benefit those most in need in our community.” If you would like to raise money for The Argus Appeal, email elsa.gillio@theargus.co.uk or call 01273 544465.
