Ladies Mile Road follows the line of an old drove road that runs from Patcham to Stanmer Park.
Its name comes from its distance from the old Brighton boundary which was considered to be a suitable distance for ladies to ride, while gentlemen were expected to go much further.
These days it is an important local shopping area for the residents of Patcham.
The older picture here dates from the 1960s.
